Ingrid Carlberg is a writer and journalist and since 2020 a member of the Swedish Academy.s

During the years 1990-2010, she was employed at Dagens Nyheter. She is an honorary doctor of medicine at Uppsala University and was the holder of the Hjörnes visiting professorship in practical journalism at the University of Gothenburg in the 2012/2013 academic year.  

She was born in 1961, grew up in Surahammar outside Västerås and now lives outside Stockholm.

Ingrid Carlberg started as a journalist at Vestmanland's Läns Tidning in Västerås in 1982. She has a bachelor's degree in, among other things, political science and national economics and was a research assistant in the state power investigation in the late eighties. She started at Dagens Nyheter in 1990 and worked there for twenty years, specializing in investigative and narrative reporting. Since January 2010 full-time writer and freelance journalist.

She debuted as a children's and youth book author in 2002, with the books about Rosalie and then the young adult novel Min bror Benjamin. The authorship then continued in the non-fiction genre, with the book Pillret (2008) which was awarded several prizes. Pillret is a journalistic account of the history behind the blockbuster modern antidepressants.

In 2012, the book came out ”Det står ett rum här och väntar på dig…” Berättelsen om Raoul Wallenberg, for which Ingrid Carlberg, among other things, was awarded the August prize for best Swedish non-fiction book in 2012.

The book "NOBEL. Den gåtfulle Alfred, hans värld och hans pris" was published in September 2019. It has been nominated for the August prize for best Swedish non-fiction book 2019.

In October 2020, Ingrid Carlberg was elected to the Swedish Academy on seat 5 after Göran Malmqvist. As a result of the pandemic, the Swedish Academy canceled its festive gathering in December of that year. The ceremony when she took her entrance was instead carried out digitally in April 2021.
